Nikki M. James Will Play Final Performance on January 05 in Book of Mormon

Tony Award winner Nikki M. James, who originated the role of Nabulungi in the Tony Award-winning hit The Book of Mormon, will depart the production in early January at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. Nikki M. James tweeted: “I will BE making my final appearance @BookofMormon on Jan 5th. Then it’s off to the barricade. #proofread #thisbook… (U know how it goes)”. James will soon star as ‘Eponine’ in the upcoming revival of Les Miserables, which will open at the Imperial Theatre on March 23, 2014.

James has been with The Book of Mormon since the musical’s March 2011 Broadway premiere, earning a Tony Award for her performance. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, American Idol finalist Syesha Mercado will be taking over the role of ‘Nabulungi’. The Book of Mormon currently stars Matt Doyle and Cody Jamison Strand.

James will take on the role of Eponine in the Broadway return of Les Misérables, which begins performances March 1 at the Imperial Theatre.

The Book of Mormon Broadway Cast Update

The Book of Mormon Tour Stars Nic Rouleau & Ben Platt, who have been playing Elders Price and Cunningham, respectively, will join the Broadway company in January 2014. They will play the same roles at Eugene O’Neill Theatre as in they are playing in the current touring production.

Rouleau will take over from Matt Doyle and Platt will replace Cody Jamison Strand.

In addition to Doyle and Strand, the current Broadway cast includes Tony winner Nikki M. James as Nabulungi, Matt Loehr as Elder McKinley and Michael Potts as Mafala Hatimbi. The Book Of Mormon Broadway grossed $1,590,235 and had an attendance rate of 102.6%, same as the previous week. The 39 shows on the boards grossed $27,986,522, about 14.90% more than that of the previous week’s totals.

The start of April school vacations, family and tourist demand resulted in a big hit for the Broadway shows. As a result several of the shows – “Wicked,” “The Lion King,” “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” and “The Book of Mormon” – brought in huge sums per person on average, according to weekly box office data published on Monday. Wicked, Lion King and The Book Of Mormon grosses crossed $2 million sales last week.

Over all, Broadway musicals and plays grossed $28 million last week, compared to $23.8 million a week earlier and $22.1 million for the comparable week last season.
