The nine-time Tony Award-winning hit The Book of Mormon may be the next tenant of London’s Prince of Wales Theatre in 2013, according to the Daily Mail. West End Producer Sonia Friedman has announced a possible West End production in London by 2012. As of January 2012, it has been reported that it is currently in talks for the show to make a West End debut at the Prince of Wales Theatre by early 2013. The Book of Mormon had been previously reported for a London premiere in 2013 with Tony-winning Jerusalem and La Cage aux Folles producer Sonia Friedman attached. She is also among the producers of the Broadway run.
The Daily Mail reports that Mamma Mia! will exit the Prince of Wales Theatre for a run at the Novello theatre beginning in September. Another production will take up residence at the Prince of Wales prior to The Book of Mormon’s arrival there in early 2013. Talks are currently underway.
Representatives for the Broadway production did not have information on future London plans. “South Park” creators-writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Tony-winning Avenue Q songwriter Robert Lopez collaborated on the script and score to the musical, which earned Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical.
The first North American tour of The Book of Mormon will launch August 14 through September 02 at Denver’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House, prior to a 12-week Los Angeles engagement at the Pantages Theatre Sept. 5-Nov. 25. The tour was originally planned for December 2012, but has been moved forward four months.
A separate production of The Book of Mormon will play almost three-month Chicago engagement at the Bank of America Theatre. It will play Chicago Dec. 11, 2012-March 3, 2013. This will be the show’s first North American sit-down production.
