The Book of Mormon San Antonio TX engagement ended last week on Sunday, September 29, 2013. It has broken the house record in San Antonio, TX for the week ending September 29 at the Majestic Theatre grossing $1,510,630.50.

The national tours of The Book of Mormon have broken 38 house records in 18 venues across the country over the last year. At Broadway’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre, The Book of Mormon has broken the house record 44 times.

The Book of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. The production is choreographed by Casey Nicholaw and is directed by Nicholaw and Parker.

The Book of Mormon follows a similar sort of formula, though at times its humor makes South Park look tame. Its story follows two young missionaries who travel from Utah to Uganda, where they hope to convert people in a remote village by sharing their scriptures. They are met by resistance and the harsh cruelties that are part of everyday Ugandan life. Yet it’s from just such tragedies — AIDS, famine, female circumcision — that Stone and Parker derive the musical’s most comedic moments.
