Book of Mormon Musical comes to San Francisco in November 2012

Broadway blockbuster “The Book of Mormon” Musical comes to San Francisco’s Curran Theatre in November 2012.

One of the most ecstatically received musicals ever, “Book of Mormon” — which will be opening show of SHN’s 2012-13 season — marries up old-school musical theater pizazz with Cartman-worthy snarkiness in an outrageous riff on Mormon missionaries dispatched to a drought-riddled, AIDS-ravaged village in Africa. Enthusiastic streams of expletives exist side by side with jazz hands in this outrageous marriage of pop culture, political satire and high art.

Created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker of “South Park” fame and Robert Lopez (“Avenue Q”), “Book” has been the hottest ticket on the planet since its debut last year. Heavenly reviews, nine Tony Awards including best musical and the emergence of the Gleek generation has elevated “Book” to must-see status.

Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone take a schoolboy’s delight in throwing spitballs at things sacred, including most major religions,” decreed the New York Times. “But you also may have gathered that these men take equal pleasure in the transcendent, cathartic goofiness of song-and-dance numbers.”

The Original Broadway Cast Recording for “The Book of Mormon,” winner of the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, is available on Ghostlight Records.
