Book of Mormon Topped the Broadway Box Office For First Time

For the first time in its ongoing 11th month Broadway run, “The Book of Mormon” topped the box office last week. The show, which has been widely successful, had been kept out of the top spot for highest-grossing show in a single week by long-running hits like “The Lion King” and “Wicked”.

According to weekly box office data released on Monday by the Broadway League, “Mormon” grossed $1,455,329, compared to $1,349,433 for “Wicked” and $1,226,681 for “The Lion King.” The Lion King dragged to rank fourth by “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” which, like “Mormon,” is a relatively new hit that opened on Broadway in 2011; “Spider-Man” grossed $1,268,002 last week.
